31 new cases of COVID-19 recorded

GUYANA, on Saturday, recorded 31 new cases of COVID-19, taking the overall number of known cases to 6,541.

These new cases were recorded in Region One (six cases), Region Four (19 cases), Region Five (one case), Region Six (one case) and Region Eight (one case); Region Nine (two cases) and Region 10 (one case). These cases were recorded from 644 tests done.

There are currently 381 active cases. Five persons are in the COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 46 in institutional isolation, 36 in institutional quarantine and 304 in home isolation.

An additional 19 persons have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 6,019.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health’s dashboard did not include the latest COVID-19 death which took the toll to 168 on Saturday. Majeed Hussain, a stalwart of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic, succumbed to COVID-19 complications on Saturday morning.

The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force from January 1, 2021, until January 31, 2021. All persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes. Physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are also important.

The current curfew time is 22:30 to 04:00 hours. Persons with symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to call the COVID-19 hotline numbers: 231-1166; 226-7480; or 180/181 for assistance.
