THE Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced legal proceedings against Atlantic Fuels Inc for allegedly making a false customs declaration back in November.

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court has issued a summons for the fuel company and a representative is expected to appear before the court on January 4 to answer to the charge.
Particulars of the charge alleged that Atlantic Fuels Inc., on November 12, at Camp Street, Georgetown, caused to be made and subscribed a false declaration to the Revenue Authority, to wit, invoice number 100 for Customs Declaration reference number GY 410 C was falsely declared, contrary to Section 217 (1) (a) of the Customs Act, Chapter 82:01.
The complainant in the case which was filed on December 15 is GRA Commissioner General, Godfrey Statia.
Atlantic Fuels was granted a licence in late 2015, months after the coalition government took office. Two of its directors are former Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Dr Richard Van West Charles and the water company’s former Debt Recovery Manager, Lear Goring.
