CHIEF-OF-STAFF, Brigadier Godfrey Bess, has announced the promotion of 628 Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ranks in accordance with Part III, Section 16 of the Defence Act, Chapter 15:01 of 1977. The promotions were approved, effective from January 1, 2021. Two hundred and eighty-seven other ranks were confirmed in their rank while another 341 were elevated in rank. The soldiers were promoted through ranks ranging from Substantive Warrant Officer Class One to Acting Lance Corporal, and the list included 17 ranks from the Coast Guard and another 35 from the Guyana People’s Militia (GPM).
Leading the other ranks promotions were Warrant Officers Class One Kurt Trotman and Selwyn Douglas. Leading the list at the Coast Guard was acting Chief Petty Officer, Charlton Phillips, while, at the Guyana People’s Militia (GPM), acting Warrant Officer Class Two, Glendon Aaron headed the list.
Those who have been confirmed in rank have been appointed to “Substantive” rank after previously holding the “acting” rank. The promotion of officers is to be announced. The Chief-of-Staff has extended congratulations to all the promoted soldiers.
