Bandits pounce on Mahaica businesswoman

POLICE are on the hunt for two bandits who attacked and robbed three women on Saturday at Riverview, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Pramkumarie Singh, 49, a businesswoman who operates a grocery shop in the lower flat of her house, was robbed of $300,000 in cash, a quantity of GTT and Digicel phone cards, a gold ring and a gold band valued $20,000, and one iPhone.
The other victim, Nadia Singh, 29, was robbed of a wedding band and gold chain valued $46,000, along with an iPhone, while Kuntie Singh, 24, was robbed of two gold rings valued $30,000. According to the police statement, one of the victims was selling in the shop at around 12:15hrs when the two suspects entered and ordered two beers; she handed over the beers to them and one of the suspects requested a change of beverage.

Police said the victim was about to hand over the beverage when the suspect, who was armed and unmasked, jumped through the hole at the counter, held them at gunpoint and demanded cash and jewellery. He then lashed the victim to her chin and left side face.
Police said the other suspect then entered the shop through the southern door. They two bandits then took out the cash and cellphone cards from a draw, proceeded to assault the other victims and took away their personal items. The bandits then took another victim to the upper flat of the house and later returned to the lower flat and made good their escape.
