Christmas in Guyana over the past seven decades

In this December 27, 1955 photo, inmates of the Palms jived and zegged to the stains of steel band music. They were entertained at a Christmas party sponsored by the management of the charitable institution. While the elders were living in the spacious lawns in the compound, 31 children were presented with gifts in their dormitory by Santa Claus. The event was attended by senior Government officials while music was provided by Kaitukian Steel Pan
