— Dr Rambarran takes charge of GPHC; Livestock, Prison boards also appointed

CABINET has approved the appointments of several new Boards of Directors for State agencies which took effect from December, 2020. These are the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA), the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) and the Prison Visiting Committee. The GNBA board is chaired by prominent Attorney, Glen Hanoman and the other board members are Valmikki Singh, a telecommunications and ICT specialist; Davie Sukdeo, an administrative and marketing manager; Robert Mohamed, a broadcaster and radio frequency communication engineer; Jason Abdulla, a digital communications specialist; and Darryl Akeung, an information technology specialist.

The head of the telecommunications agency is also on the board. Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy said the selection of the diverse and experienced board is indicative of Government’s commitment to ensuring professionalism, equity and high standards in the local broadcast industry. The GLDA Board will be chaired by Madanlall Ramraj while directors include Jennifer Chapman, George Jervis, Javed Mustapha, Erick Anderson, Ramsay Ali, Hakeem Mohamed, Debra Gopaul, Dr. Nardeo Bassoodeo, Wilmot Garnett, Partick DeGroot, Courtley Crichlow, Shameer Mohamed, Mahendranauth Ramjit and Dr. Grayson Halley (ex officio). “In selecting this board, a lot of thought went into it because we were looking for people who can serve and enhance the livestock sector,” said Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha.

Meanwhile, Dr. Madan Rambarran has assumed chairmanship of the GPHC Board. He will be supported by directors Harryram Parmessar, Chartered Accountant; Malcolm Watkins, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health; Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi, head of Neurosurgery at GPHC, representing the Guyana Medical Association; Dr. Fawcett Jeffrey, Director of Medical and Professional Services, GPHC (ex-officio member); Brigadier (ret’d) George Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, GPHC (ex-officio member); Dr. Emanuel Cummings, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Engagement, University of Guyana, representing UG; Cleopatra Barkoye, representing the Guyana Nurses Association; and Dawn Gardener, representing the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU). With regards to the board of the Prison Visiting Committee, Deoram Timran has been appointed Chairman while directors are Gloria Noble, Everton Poole, Chatergoon Jadoopat, Ragunandan Singh and Natasha Aulder.
