Fake MMG+ ‘hotline’, Facebook page under investigation

– customers urged to be vigilant

THE General Manager of Mobile Money Guyana (MMG+) Bobita Ram, has issued a public warning following the discovery of a fake Facebook page bearing her name and likeness and a WhatsApp business account, said to be a MMG+ hotline.

Ram said that the fake page has already been reported while the “hotline” is under investigation.

“There will always be attempts by unscrupulous characters looking to defraud and take advantage of individuals. It is our duty to always be vigilant of such activity. While the Facebook page has been reported to Facebook and the WhatsApp account is being investigated by our local authorities, I am personally appealing to our customers, agents and others stakeholders to refrain, at all times, from sharing sensitive information through unverified channels,” Ram stated.

“At no time would a MMG+ or GTT staff member ever ask for your Personal Identification Number (PIN) or any other information deemed private and confidential,” Ram clarified.

Ram is personally incensed by the action and notes that communication on the matter would be widespread to help raise awareness and prevent any wrongdoing under her name or that of the MMG+ brand.

A fake social media account could result in legal action against the impersonator(s). Similarly, fraud or the attempt to commit fraud would not be tolerated and would be dealt with in cooperation with the local authorities. Investigations into the aforementioned issues are currently ongoing.
