Alleged spectacle frame thief granted bail

A MAN, who allegedly stole a spectacle frame from Unicomer, on Wednesday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a simple larceny charge.

Yondoll Albert of Hadfield Street, denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Rondel Weever.

It is alleged that, on November 10, at Lot 25 – 26 Main Street, Georgetown, he stole one Mont Blanc plastic spectacle frame valued $97,999.

According to information provided, on the day in question, Albert entered Unicomer to browse through the items. Upon his completion, he proceeded to the Optical department where he looked at several spectacle frames.

When the opportunity arose, he allegedly placed a grey silver full-rim plastic frame in his front left side pants pocket. One of the sales representatives who was assisting Albert noticed the spectacle frame in his pocket and confronted him.

In response, Albert reportedly stated that “it was a mistake.” He was later arrested and told of the allegation. He admitted to the offence committed and was placed into custody and later charged.

Magistrate Weever granted the accused $35,000 bail and adjourned the matter to December 16.
