Kitty man accused of murder remanded

A MAN, who allegedly bludgeoned a security guard to death before robbing him, on Tuesday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Faith McGusty.

Shawn Small of D’Andrade Street, Kitty, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder.

The charge alleged that he, on November 11, at New Market Street, Georgetown, murdered Bharrat Dass in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

Prosecutor Inniss informed the court that, on the day in question, Small, along with other persons was drinking at the Dass’ workplace. All of Dass’ drinking partners later left. Small, it is alleged, subsequently returned and inflicted several[zf1] blows to Dass’ head before escaping with his cellular phone and money.

The matter was reported to the police and an investigation was conducted. The accused was arrested and charged for the offence.

The matter was adjourned to December 8, 2020.
