A 25-year-old man, who was allegedly caught with an unlicensed firearm and matching ammunition in his possession, was, on Tuesday, remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Hamzah Eastman, of D’Urban Street, Lodge, pleaded not guilty to the two charges which were read to him.
It is alleged that Eastman, on November 7, at Cane View Avenue, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, had in his possession a .32 Revolver and four .32 live rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
According to the facts, on the day in question about 22:45hours, police ranks were on mobile patrol duty when they observed Eastman on Cane View Avenue in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road, standing under a light pole. He was operating in a suspicious manner. As the ranks approached him, he reportedly dropped a shine object. The object was retrieved and found to be a firearm. He was arrested.
The matter was adjourned to November 27.
