SCORES attended Deep Jale “Our Deepavali Light Up” hosted by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha at the Seawall Roundabout on Thursday evening.
The event was designed to take into account the COVID-19 restrictions.
The programme included music and songs and the ceremonial switching on of the lights of a beautiful multi-diya structure. The event also had in attendance Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha President, Dr Vindyha Persaud; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson jnr. and Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr KJ Srinivasa.
The Sabha is also hosting a virtual Rangoli competition and is encouraging the creation of beautiful rangoli patterns at entrances of homes and businesses to welcome Maha Lakshmi.
“Prizes can be won by submitting three pictures of your design, you making the rangoli and the finished rangoli to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Facebook page. These will be judged by the public on Facebook and prizes awarded,” the release said, noting that the competition is open to all.
The first virtual Diwali motorcade will be held on Friday, November 13 at 20:00 hrs. After 46 years of Diwali Motorcade, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be presenting a virtual motorcade showcasing spectacular floats and featuring outstanding local and international artistes in a two-and-half hour live concert.
Ben Parag, Purnash Durgaprasad, Vishale Sookram, Suchitra Rampersaud and Artie Sookhai-Khellawan, who are based in New York, and Neval Chatelall, of Trinidad and Tobago, will join Suraj Singh, Ganindra, Sonya Ragbeer, Sookrane Boodhoo, Mona Gowkaran, Rekha Ranglall, Richie Hansraj and Nayakumari Roopram to present beautiful songs that capture the magic of Diwali.
