TWO parked lorries and a car went up in flames following an accident on the Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road around 06:05hrs on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accident occurred when a 66-year-old pedal cyclist swerved from a puddle of water, causing the driver of the car to crash into a parked lorry.

The pedal cyclist, identified as Deokumar Parbo, is currently hospitalised.

He was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted. The driver is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

Reports are that motorcar PTT 9975 was being driven by a 36-year-old and was proceeding west along the southern side of the southern carriageway.

The cyclist was proceeding in the same direction when he suddenly swerved on the roadway into the path of the motorcar, in a bid to avoid the puddle of water.

In an effort to avoid a collision, the driver of the motorcar applied brakes; however, the vehicle still collided with the cyclist, causing him to fall onto the road where he sustained injuries.

Subsequently, the driver lost control of the car and slammed into a parked lorry on the southern side of the parapet. The car then burst into flames, destroying the parked lorry it hit and another one close to it.
