Dharmic Sabha to host Deep Jale

– at Kitty Seawall Roundabout on Thursday

THE Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be hosting a number of activities in the countdown to Diwali 2020 on November 14, all designed to take into account the COVID-19 restrictions.

According to a release, Deep Jale “Our Deepavali Light Up”, begins the festivities on Thursday, November 5th at 17:30 hrs at the Seawall Roundabout with the lighting of a dazzling structure of diyas which will brighten the area each night until Diwali.

The short programme will include music and songs and the ceremonial switching on of the lights of the beautiful multi-diya structure. The public is encouraged to drive-by and make a stop for their pictures and to collect sweet boxes and prasadam.

The event will be streamed on the Sabha’s facebook page and broadcast live via E-networks and other channels.
There will also be a virtual Rangoli competition. The Sabha is encouraging the creation of beautiful rangoli patterns at entrances of homes and businesses to welcome Maha Lakshmi.

“Prizes can be won by submitting three pictures of your design, you making the rangoli and the finished rangoli to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Facebook page.  These will be judged by the public on Facebook and prizes awarded; Open to all,” the release said.

The first virtual Diwali motorcade will be held on Friday, November 13 at 20:00 hrs. After 46 years of Diwali Motorcade, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be presenting a virtual motorcade showcasing spectacular floats and featuring outstanding local and international artistes in a two-and-half hour live concert.
Ben Parag, Purnash Durgaprasad, Vishale Sookram, Suchitra Rampersaud, Artie Sookhai-Khellawan, who are based in New York, and Neval Chatelall, of Trinidad and Tobago, will join Suraj Singh, Ganindra, Sonya Ragbeer, Sookrane Boodhoo, Mona Gowkaran , Rekha Ranglall , Richie Hansraj and Nayakumari Roopram to present beautiful songs that capture the magic of Diwali.

The Sabha also said that fabulous dance performances by Dharmic Nritya Sangh and other acts will blend seamlessly to create the perfect prelude to the festival. The programme will be aired on E-networks channel E3, NCN 11, NTN 69 and the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha facebook page.

This will be followed by ‘Guyana Light Up’ and the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is urging all to light up their homes and businesses for Diwali.

“Use of traditional diyas is encouraged while welcoming the modern touch of electrical light as we seek [to] dispel darkness in all its forms. Send us pictures of your light up and the best will be featured on our TV programmes and Facebook page.

“Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha encourages the Hindu Community to perform Lakshmi Puja at homes and in mandirs while observing the COVID-19 guidelines. We anticipate a brilliant and radiant Diwali 2020 and encourage all to stay safe as we observe this sacred festival dedicated to the worship of Maha Lakshmi,” the release concluded.
