Teen charged for discharging firearm

AN 18-year-old ‘C’ Field, Sophia resident, on Monday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent and was released on $175,000 bail.

James Freeman pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus.

It is alleged that on September 27, 2020, at Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Floyd Dewsbury with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.

The court was informed that on the day in question, at about 10:00 hours, Dewsbury, who resides at Roxanne Burnham Gardens, was standing in front of his yard when Freeman and another approached him on a black XR Motorcycle.

The pillion rider, who was armed with a handgun, began discharging several rounds at Dewsbury. This caused Dewsbury to receive injuries to his left side neck. In retaliation, Dewsbury, who is a licensed firearm holder, discharged several rounds at Freeman and his accomplice. The two men abandoned the motorcycle and both made good their escape. The accused was later found, arrested and charged.

While under arrest, Freeman allegedly admitted that he was present, but denied discharging rounds at the virtual complainant.

The matter was adjourned to November 9.
