Miner shot after objecting to loud music

POLICE are investigating an incident at Iyana Backdam, North West District, which has left a 35-year-old miner hospitalised with a gunshot injury to the leg.
Injured is Paul Bacchus of Moruca, North West District.

According to reports, the incident occurred on October 24, 2020 around 18:30 hours.
According to a police report, on the date and time in question, Bacchus went to a shop located at Iyana Backdam to make a call to his relatives.

However, persons who were also at the shop imbibing were playing loud music which disturbed Bacchus during his phone call.

As a result of the disturbance, Bacchus asked the persons to lower the volume of the music so that he can continue his call. However, they refused and began verbally abusing him.
“According to the victim, he then left the shop and went to urinate and whilst doing so he heard a loud explosion which sounded like a gun shot and attempted to run but found it difficult to do so and then realized that he had been injured to his right thigh after which he collapsed and lost consciousness” the police said.

A flight was charted to take him to seek medical attention at a hospital, where he is presently under guard. The police noted that the investigation is ongoing.
