WITH the local cricket fraternity gearing up for future Guyana and Demerara Cricket Board elections, the East Coast Cricket Committee (ECCC) is preparing for that crucial process, following a recent General Meeting held on October 4.

While the ECCC has openly endorsed the passing of the Guyana Cricket Administration Act (GCAA), which now paves the way for a fresh electoral process as well as a choosing of an ombudsman ahead of the said elections; a recent meeting attended by a number of clubs on the Coast, sought to get things into to perspective.

Among the 17 clubs present at the meeting with two absentees in (Buxton Carl Hooper Sports Club and Better Hope Cricket Club; Enmore Community Center Clubs A/B, Enterprise Busta, Ogle Community Center Club, Industry Sports Club, Fairfield Cricket Club, Lusignan Sports Club (A/B) among others were a part of the mini summit which focused on the rehabilitation of their cricket.

Minutes from the meeting stated that the clubs were all in favor for a number of similar points regarding the future of East Coast and more so Guyana’s future as it relates to Elections and the state of things, namely leadership on the East Coast.

The clubs strongly agreed that they reserved the right to select their representative for the County Board by means of a transparent process. The attendees were also in favor of Minister of Sports Charles Ramson Jr. appointing a capable person to verify the active cricket clubs on the East Coast as well as to invigilate elections for East Coast cricket.

Calls for verification that all persons seeking office in a cricket administration way, will need to be members of an active cricket club for a significant amount of years. These calls come on the back of some 5 years of progress which the ECCC and not what they have deemed to be the purported East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB), which they have been engaged in tussles with over the years with regard to the development of East Coast Cricket.

With a number of top Guyana and West Indies players the likes of Chandrapaul Hemraj, Tagenarine Chandrapaul, Bhaskar Yadram and other talents being products of East Coast Cricket, the ECCC will be keen on ensuring some stability is brought to their neck of the woods as it relates to the p[reservation of their upcoming and current stars.
