Alleged ganja trafficker granted bail

TAXI driver, Marvin Pillay, on Friday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of 202 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The Duncan Street, Campbellville resident pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $150,000 bail by Magistrate Delon Bess.

It was alleged that on October 15, 2020 at 14:45 hours, police ranks attached to the Narcotics Branch executed a search on Pillay’s hire car bearing registration number HC9999 which he was driving at the time. During the search, a multicolored hand bag was uncovered. In the presence of Pillay, the bag was searched and a transparent Ziploc plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found inside.

He was cautioned and told of the offence committed. Subsequently, he was arrested and escorted to the Narcotics Branch where the cannabis was weighed.
The matter was adjourned to November 11 at Court Two.
