COME Wednesday, Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry is expected to sum up the evidence in the trial of Odel Roberts, who is alleged to have murdered a Sophia shopkeeper in 2015.
Roberts also called Delon Williams or “Gully Side”, formerly of ‘C’ Field Sophia, pleaded not guilty to murdering Shawn Anys on May 1, 2015, during a robbery at `D’ Field, Sophia.
The trial is being conducted at the Demerara High Court.
The state is being represented by prosecutors, Tiffani Lyken and Nafeeza Baig, while attorney-at-law, Damion DaSilva, is representing Roberts.
In his defence, Roberts told the court “I have no knowledge of no murder that took place because I was in prison.”
His attorney urged the jury to find his client not guilty of the offence since the prosecution had failed to establish its case.
Prosecutor Lyken, in closing her case, argued that a sufficient case was made out against Roberts.
Following the summing up on Wednesday, the judge will hand over the case to the 12-member jury who will retire to consider their verdict in the case.
