GEORGETOWN Mayor Ubraj Narine will host a 32-team football tournament in January (2021) to mark the return of the ‘Mayor’s Cup’ which was held for a number of years under one of his predecessors, Hamilton Green.
A release from the Mayor’s Cup Organising Committee which is headed by former National player and coach Lennox Arthur said the Inter-Ward-type tournament will feature teams from Georgetown, East Coast and East Bank Demerara, Berbice and West Demerara.
Organisers said the tournament was long in the making and would have been just in time to coincide with the celebration of Mayor Narine’s birthday (October 12), as it did with the previous Mayor of Georgetown. Unfortunately, the advent of the coronavirus forced the competition to be rescheduled.
However, the Mayor’ Cup Organising Committee takes this opportunity to extend congratulations to Mayor Ubraj Narine on his special day.
