COVID-19 death toll passes 100

A 28-year-old man from Region Two and a 57-year-old man from Region Four are the latest COVID-19 fatalities as the total number of recorded deaths in Guyana climbed to 102.

Some 29 new cases were recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the latest statistics provided by the Ministry of Health.
The two persons are said to have died while receiving care at a public health facility. The death of the two men come even as men continue to account for a higher number of cases recorded in Guyana.

Of the 3,358 cases recorded to date, 1782 have been male. However, of the newest cases, 12 were male. The latest numbers came as another 118 persons were tested over the past 24-hour testing cycle, bringing the total number of persons tested to date to 15, 568.

Some 2180 have recovered from COVID-19 but 15 are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), down from 16 that were in the unit on Thursday. Sone 115 persons are in institutional isolation while 59 persons are in institutional quarantine and 948 persons are In home isolation.

Region Four continues to account for the majority of the country’s cases, recording 1,566 cases to date, the only region to hit a four-digit number in cases.
