Repeat offender sentenced to three years in prison

DELLON English, a 23-year-old of Rasville, Greater Georgetown, having been charged for ‘robbery under arms’, was, on Wednesday sentenced to three years in prison when he appeared before Magistrate Delon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

English had initially denied the allegation made against him on Friday, March 27, 2020 when he first appeared before Magistrate Bess at the said Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was subsequently remanded to prison.

Particulars of the charge state that, on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at West Ruimveldt, Greater Georgetown, English, being in the company of another, and armed with a dangerous weapon, specifically a gun, robbed Cleveland Glasgow of two cellular phones valued $64,000, one wallet valued $7,000, and an undisclosed number of documents.

The court was told by the prosecutor that at 10:00hrs on the day in question, Glasgow was riding a motorcycle when English and his accomplice, who happened to be riding a motorcycle in the same direction as he, rode up to him, and at gunpoint ordered him to stop.

Glasgow having complied with their demand, both assailants dismounted their motorcycle, while English proceeded to frisk and relieve him of the articles. According to the prosecutor, Glasgow duly reported the incident, ostensibly at the West Ruimveldt Police Station, but when he went to follow up on the matter on Wednesday March 25, 2020, there was English! Glasgow immediately alerted the police and confronted English, but seasoned criminal that he is, the latter reportedly remained silent throughout the entire ordeal. He was subsequently cautioned and charged for the offence.

Said to be a repeat offender, English currently has ongoing matters in court.
