Director of Sport should be Public Service appointment

Letter  to Sports Editor

I see from the press that at least two persons have come out to give their support to Mr Kashif  Mohamed– or Mr  Greg Charles as he is known in a previous life for the position of Director of Sport.

First off, this position should be a public service appointment. It should be properly advertised and done properly.

How much do we know about Mr Mohamed other than with his partner, Mr Shanghai, ran off a football tournament here in Guyana?

What is his background?

Not knowing anything about him only fuels rumours or facts as to his character.

This is a very important position and would entail reporting to the Sports Commission on all disciplines and to represent the Commission overseas to discuss important sporting matters.

This is just not football. We have the GFF for that.

Proper care should be taken with this appointment and complete background checks be made on the selectee.

This is not a “I know you long” type of appointment; this is serious business.

Yours in Sport,
Andre Sullivan
