RICE MILLER and owner of A&S General Contractors Inc., Amajad Reasat, on Saturday, donated a quantity of food supplies to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to assist in its COVID-19 relief efforts.

During a simple ceremony at his De Hoop, Mahaica business place, Reasat handed over a thousand bags of 10kg rice and fifty packs of channa, split peas and flour, respectively, to Director-General of CDC, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig.

In brief remarks, the businessman said that this is a trying time for all of Guyana and he felt compelled to donate as he was inspired to do. He explained that he chose the CDC because he has seen how systemically and strategically the Commission has been distributing relief supplies in various communities. Reasat expressed confidence that those in need will be the beneficiaries of his contribution.

In response, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig commended the businessman and his family for supporting the cause and assured that the CDC will not disappoint them.

He informed that the Commission will continue to put together hampers for distribution to those impacted by the global pandemic. He said the contribution will be used to meet the needs of those impacted by job loss, reduction and/or infected/affected by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Director-General used the opportunity to appeal to other businesses and organisations to emulate the businessman’s contribution.
