CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan, on Friday, October 2, 2020, released a 54-year-old horse cart operator on $100,000 bail after he appeared before her accused of raping a woman.
Christopher Howes of Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the charge.
Particulars of the charge stated that Howes, on April 5, 2020, at his home, engaged in sexual penetration with the 44-year-old woman without her consent.
Howes was represented by Attorney-at-law, Bernard DaSilva, who made an application for bail.
The Chief Magistrate, in granting bail, also ordered that Howes keep away from the victim. He was also ordered to report to the Ruimveldt Police Station fortnightly.
The case will be heard again on October 19.
The Guyana Chronicle was made to understand that Howes and the woman shared a relationship. On April 5, the woman went to the home of the accused where they had a misunderstanding.
It is alleged that Howes later raped the woman. During the altercation, it is alleged that the woman stabbed Howes to his scrotum.
