THE Guyana Golden Jaguars (GGJ) will first meet Guatemala in their quest for a second consecutive appearance at the prestigious CONCACAF Gold Cup to be staged in USA, beginning on July 2nd next year.

In last night’s historic and unprecedented live draw from Miami for the CONCACAF Premier biannual tournament and viewed by millions around the world, the Jaguars were drawn against the Central American Guatemalans in their opening fixture of the 12-team Preliminary knock out round where 3 teams will advance to the finals.

In their 2nd match up, should they get past Guatemala, the Jaguars will meet the winner of the Guadeloupe versus Bahamas for a place in the 16- team finals.

The 166th ranked nation, according to the latest FIFA, earned qualification to the 2021 Gold Cup Preliminary round after finishing 2nd in their B League group competition of the second edition of the CONCACAF Nations League.

In their final game against run-away winners of the group, the Golden Jaguars were held to a 1-1 draw by the Reggae Boyz in Montego Bay to clinch the runners-up spot ahead of Antigua and Barbuda and Aruba.

In the home-and-away ties played late Last year, the Jaguars scored a 1-0 win and lost 1-2 to Aruba and Antigua and Barbuda abroad, while securing big wins at home by 5-1 and 4-2 margins versus the Antigua’s and Aruba so respectively.

The Guyanese were however rolled over 4-0 by their Jamaican counterparts in the first home game.
