POLICE are investigating the armed robbery committed on a 37-year-old mechanic and his family at their Recht-Door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara home by three armed men on Wednesday night.
According to police, around 19:50 hours on Wednesday, the mechanic was standing in his veranda when the robbers jumped his fence from a southern direction.
One of the suspects held a gun to the victim’s head and ordered him to go inside. The other suspects were armed with a cutlass and knife.
While inside the house, the bandits ordered the victim, his wife and children into the living room and demanded cash and other items from them.
The mechanic took the men into his bedroom and handed over $300,000 cash. The armed men dealt the mechanic several blows about the body while demanding that he also hand over his jewellery.
The armed men ransacked the mechanic’s home and carted off a number of cell phones, laptop computers, tablets and gold jewellery, estimated at a total value of $1,085,500.
The armed men then made good their escape after which the victim managed to raise an alarm. He was rush to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and received treatment for wounds to the head and sent away.
