Three arraigned for escaping from prison

THREE inmates who escaped from the Lusignan Prison back in April were, on Thursday, arraigned in court for the offence.
The men are 26-year-old Anthony Padmore of Ogle Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD); 24-year-old Sasenarine Bisnauth of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo and 32-year-old Ghanesh Dhanraj of Facade Parika, EBE. They appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer via Skype.
The trio pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that they escaped from lawful custody contrary to section 339(b) of the Criminal Law Offences Act chapter 8:01.
Padmore was sentenced to two years imprisonment while Dhanraj and Bisnauth were each sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.
On April 20, 2020, four inmates escaped from the holding bay at the Lusignan Prison.

The men, Padmore, Bisnauth, Dhanraj and Kenraul Perez escaped from the facility around 03:46 hours on the day in question, during heavy rains.
The discovery was made by prison officials during roll call at 06:15 hours, when the four prisoners did not answer to their names.
The relevant CCTV footage was examined and the police were alerted.

The prisoners made good their escape by jumping the eastern fence of the prison.
Padmore was recaptured on May 1, while Bisnauth was arrested on May 6. Dhanraj was recaptured on May 31. Perez is still on the run.
Padmore is serving a three-year sentence for trafficking in cannabis while Bisnauth was on remand for two counts of robbery and armed robbery.
Dhanraj and Perez were on remand for murder.
