Miner dies in Mazaruni River mishap

AN investigation has been launched into the death of a 39-year-old miner during the course of a boat accident in the vicinity of Bush Cow Landing, on the Mazaruni River, in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

The miner has been identified as Kary Henry of Jawalla Village, in the same Region Seven.
Reports are that on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at about 23:00hrs, Henry and three other persons were travelling in a wooden boat on their way to the Beanamarupai Backdam, when the vessel collided with a floating log. The impact reportedly caused Henry to be thrown into the river, and one of his fellow passengers to be injured in the head. Word is that the boat, was captained by a 24-year-old fellow miner of Kabauri Village.

Henry’s body was found around 08:00hrs on Sunday following a thorough search of the spot where the accident occurred, and has since been taken to the Imbamadai Health Post to await a post mortem examination.
