IN four days, Guyana will host the first-ever Caribbean Virtual Oil and Gas Summit (CARIVS) 2020 which will be attended by over 1,000 oil and gas professionals from over 500 regional and global companies.
Ahead of the event, the Guyana Chronicle reached out to Valiant Business Media (Guyana) co-hosts along with VALIANT Business Media (UK) for the event set for September 15-17, 2020.

CARIVS will allow exhibitors and delegates to meet up virtually to discuss industry developments, find new clients and partners and secure investment. It takes into consideration the collapse of oil prices and disruptions to demand due to COVID-19 and will see presentations from global experts on the future of the industry.

Director of Valiant Business Media, Shariq AbdulHai, told the newspaper that at least 10 international investment firms including ERES Capital, The Atlantic Ventures, Smart-One-investments, and Elgin Investments are expected to attend the event. Meanwhile, over 20 companies including oil and gas leaders such as ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, Saipem and SBM offshore will be exhibiting at CARIVS.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs, particularly from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago will form a large part of the overall participation, AbdulHai assured. Asked how preparations were going, he said: “So far so good. The process has been very smooth. We are in touch with our exhibitors constantly and have a dedicated technical team that works round the clock alongside our marketing and sales teams to ensure booths are created as per clients’ specifications.”

The virtual reality events are tipped to become the gold-standard of how business will be done in the future. Exhibitors will be able to manage and track each part of their summit including measuring the average time spent by delegates and number of people who visited the booth; online meetings including the total number of business cards exchanged and number of one-on-one chats and the number of attendees grouped by industry, interest type, country and job position.

“All stakeholders will be able to access real-time networking features such as one-to-one live chats and video calls. The virtual platform also has a provision for private pre-arranged meetings for a group of up to six people in the virtual networking lounges and the breakout rooms,” the Director said.
While experts too many to list will be present, those attending can also expect the keynote address from Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Motley and Honourable Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat on behalf of President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali. Dignitaries from several other Caribbean governments are also expected to attend the event.

CARIVS will primarily be focused on five countries: Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and The Bahamas. However, stakeholders from the wider Caribbean region are also expected to join the forum. Since Guyana’s many successes in the oil and gas arena, many have envisioned developmental potential for the entire region like never before.

AbdulHai said: “We are proud to have become the pioneers of the first virtual oil and gas expo and conference. CARIVS 2020 will be the largest gathering of the oil and gas stakeholders in Caribbean so far this year and with CARIVS we have definitely created a benchmark for the global energy events industry.”
