A SEVENTY-year-old man tragically lost his life after the tractor he was operating toppled and pinned him in the process.
At approximately 14:30 hours on Thursday, Martin Cedric Herman, of Orealla, Upper Corentyne River, was operating a tractor that was hauling a trailer with logs in the Orealla backlands when the left side wheel on the tractor broke off from the axel.

According to information reaching Guyana Chronicle, the weight of the logs and the sudden drop when the wheel broke off, caused the tractor to buckle and eventually topple, pinning Herman in the process.
The five other loggers, who were on the trailer at the time of the incident, rushed to the rescue of their colleague but when they eventually managed to pull him from under the wreckage, he was in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the Orealla Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
