–giving consumers more entertainment options in this restrictive COVID-19 season
WITH the ever-changing trends the world over in technological development, various business owners here are hard at work to flood the local market with new and innovative options, as PressPlay Incorporated has done by introducing IPTV here.
IPTV, short for Internet Protocol Television, according to the ‘techies’, is the delivery of television content via Internet Protocol networks, as opposed to delivery through the traditional terrestrial, satellite, or cable television formats. Unlike downloaded media, IPTV offers the ability to stream the source media continuously.
So what PressPlay Inc is essentially doing here is offering users the opportunity to have over 120 premium ‘high-definition’ channels by optimising the use of their Internet connection.
the service’s official launch on August 15, 2020, ‘PressPlay’ Director Amanda Bhaichandeen told the Guyana Chronicle, it has already been having “rave reviews” from customers who have been able to access it.
She said that the whole idea behind the introduction of this novel IPTV service was to utilise something that almost everyone has access to, which is Internet connection. Noting that what the company is essentially trying to do is make Guyanese more tech-savvy, Bhaichandeen said:
“We have created an amazing package that is fully portable; it’s not confining you to your home the way that a cable service would, so you can take your favourite channels on-the-go. Wherever you are, as long as you have a stable Internet connection, you are able to take your favourite TV channels with you.”
Noting that the service is “simple” to access, Bhaichandeen said: “Persons can have access with ease, since all you need is good Internet connection. You don’t even need to spend money for any extra equipment; you don’t even need anyone to help install it. You just do it yourself.”
She explained that the PressPlay Connect app can be downloaded on any ‘smart’ device, such as a Smart-phone, ‘Tablets’, Smart-TV, and even an Amazon FireStick.
When asked why the company chose to move in this innovative direction, she stated, “Internet is life! To complement your Internet, we are bringing you a way to use your Internet to be entertained. Everyone is home; all of the children are at home. Those who are working, they want to go home and look at a variety of shows.”
The initial cost of the IPTV Ultimate HD service is $5000, but the company has since added a Select HD service, which is a bit cheaper at $3500 for 60 HD channels.
And in order to facilitate ease of payments, the company has partnered with local billers in Guyana such as MMG, SurePay, Bill Express, and PayPal. “Everything is done through the website, further promoting a more futuristic experience,” Bhaichandeen said, adding: “PressPlay allows persons to use their service on multiple devices.”
