Miner with vomiting, diarrhoea dies at Port Kaituma Hospital

A GOLD miner who suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting died on Thursday at the Port Kaituma District Hospital after he fell sick at Hymacururu Backdam, North West District, earlier in the week.

Police are investigating the death of Roy Conyers, 46, of Canal Bank, Port Kaituma, North West District.
Reports indicate that Roy Conyers was employed by a man who operates a six-inch Land Dredge at Hymacururu Backdam, North West District and while working on Monday last, he became sick with diarrhoea and vomiting.

On Wednesday, his employer contacted his reputed wife via cellular phone and told her that Conyers was not feeling well.
On Thursday, a speedboat was chartered to carry Conyers out of the backdam. On arrival on the same day around 15:00 hours, he was taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced him dead.

His body was examined by the police for marks of violence but none was seen on the exposed parts of the body.
He was subsequently taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital Mortuary for storage, awaiting autopsy.
Police confirmed that a COVID-19 test was not done on the Conyers at the hospital.
