Residents of the Amerindian communities of St Monica, Karawab and Kabakaburi, in the Upper Pomeroon (Region Two) have received help from the Region Two Administration to tackle the COVID-19 virus.
On Monday, Region Two Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt, along with Regional Vice-Chairman, Nandranie Coonjah and Regional Councillor, Vilma Da Silva, handed over a quantity of items to the communities.
The Region Two chairman said the donation was made by a businessman to bring relief to the community. In receiving the donation, one of the village captains, Thomas Charles, said the community is predominantly affected by the virus and many persons are unemployed.
He, therefore, thanked the administration and the businessman for the relief which will impact their lives positively. Many of the positive cases within the region are said to come from the St Monica/Karawab and Kabakaburi areas. Persons are, therefore, advised to observe the COVID-19 guidelines of wearing a mask and to practice social distancing.
