…Golf ace Mangal cops top prize
IT was easy pickings for ex -Guyana Open Men’s Golf Champ, Mike Mangal who starred in the maiden Hit & Win tournament sponsored by NexGen Golf Academy /Survival Shopping Complex.
Mangal beat off a filed a 55 other golfers to claim the top prize while rookie female golfer Michelle Codrington also took top honors, with prizes for first time players in all categories which included male, female and children.
Parshuram Arjune, Director of Survival who was present to hand over some of the prizes, said “This was my first time playing the game with my sons, and it was an absolute joy to share this experience with them, especially since my work schedule is so hectic. But with the lighted facility, we were able to enjoy (the game) late into the evening.”
He added that this would be an ongoing activity, and relationship with the Academy has great potential to further develop the sport while helping to encourage the younger generation to fully get involved in golf.
Meanwhile, the Academy wrapped up its 2-day clinic on Tuesday at their Woolford Avenue location. Facilitator Colin Ming hosted children’s evaluations camp for youths aged 3-14.
Director of the Academy Rudy Ramalingum, said in a statement regarding the success of the camp, “It is our goal to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to learn the sport without the cost normally associated with the game.”
Meanwhile, President of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA) and NexGen boss Aleem Hussain, regarding the camp said, “I am elated with the results and the mix of players we have seen in the past month, with more women and children, families and couples taking advantage of the location to learn the game and experience something only seen on television”, He ended.
