THE Americas Board was informed about the decisions of the FIBA Executive Committee regarding the FIBA Calendar for World and Senior Continental Competitions in case the November window of the AmeriCup Qualifiers will not be possible to be played.

FIBA said will continue the preparations and will exhaust all reasonable opportunity (including special safety measures) to play the games in November. In case this is impossible due to the pandemic, the games in November would be postponed to February 2021, and the games in February 2021 would be played in a window during July 5-13 2021 (games on July 8-9 and 11-12), after the Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The dates of AmeriCup Women 2021 and AmeriCup 2022 remain the same, as communicated in our previous correspondence and in the letters from the FIBA headquarters.

The Americas Board has ratified the 2021 Competition Calendar for Youth competitions, Senior zone & sub-zones competitions and Club competitions, as prepared by the Regional Office in the Americas.

In addition to the ratification of calendars, FIBA Secretary-General Andreas Zagklis presented the concept and plans for the implementation of a Zone cup – the 3×3 AmeriCup, as well as Zone/Sub-Zone qualifiers to the 3×3 AmeriCup that will be organised in 2021. The plan and structure for this project was also approved by the Americas Zone Board.

“With our competition schedules for 2020 and 2021 and the plans to implement the 3×3 AmeriCup now formalised, approved and scheduled for September 2-5, 2021, the America’s Regional office will now focus on the operations and execution of these events, while maintaining the health and safety of all our players, teams, staff and stakeholders as a priority,” basketball’s global governing body said in a release.

Guyana’s Patrick Haynes, who serves as CONCENCABA’s Secretary, reasoned that FIBA’s 3×3 AmeriCup has been formalised and approved, “the Central America and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) sub-zone will execute two FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup qualifying events in 2021, FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup Qualifier – CBC (March 19-21) in the Caribbean and FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup Qualifier – COCABA (April 23-25) in Central America.”

The CONCENCABA Secretary, said that they will also be “focussing on executing all Centrobasket Championships in 2021 including Centrobasket Women’s Championship (January 31 – February 8), Centrobasket U-15 Championship for Men and Women, (March 10-14), Centrobasket U-17 Qualifiers for Men and Women, (April 28 – May 2), Centrobasket U-17 Women Championship (July 14-18) and the Centrobasket U-17 Men’s Championship (July 21-25).”
