~ says former minister Broomes in reaction to rumours
ON Tuesday afternoon ‘sources’ of news informed that former Government Minister, Simona Broomes, who once held the responsibility for Youth Affairs within the Ministry of the Presidency, along with her driver, had been charged for assault, following an altercation with two men.
When the Guyana Chronicle contacted the former minister to confirm the charges, she noted that she would not be answering any questions as she was still processing the news.
However, in one of her live Facebook updates, just moments after speaking with this publication, Broomes stated that neither she nor her driver was charged for any crime.
Additionally, Broomes stated that she was made aware of an allegation made against her and her driver; however no officer of the Guyana Police Force informed her that she had been charged.
Early Monday morning Broomes took to a Facebook livestream while she was in pursuit of two men who had ripped off ‘No fishing’ signs from her private property. Broomes and her driver trailed the men all the way from her Meadowbrook Home to the Sophia area where she confronted them about their business at her private residence.
The former minister who appeared to be distressed at the time of the livestream said that when she had first inquired their reason for being at her home and destroying her signs, they hurled death threats at her and made an attempt to escape.
During the confrontation Broomes identified one of the men as a former schoolmate and a Council Member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic.
Meanwhile the men, who were seen clearly in the Facebook livestream maintained their innocence of the allegations.
According to Broomes the men had made a report of an assault to the GPF.
