…Police investigation launched
THE Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into alleged threats to former Government Minister, Simona Broomes, who once held the responsibility for Youth Affairs within the Ministry of the Presidency.

Former Government Minister, Simona Broomes

Early Monday morning Broomes took to a Facebook live stream, while she was in pursuit of two men who had ripped off a ‘No fishing’ sign from her private property to preserve a pond adjacent to her house. Broomes and her driver trailed the men all the way from her Meadowbrook house to the Sophia area where she confronted them about their business at her private residence.

The former minister on the livestream said that when she had first inquired their reason for being at her home and destroying her signs, they made death threats at her and made an attempt to escape. During the confrontation, Broomes identified one of the men as a former schoolmate and a Council Member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic.
Meanwhile the men, who were seen clearly in the Facebook live stream, maintained their innocence of the allegations. When contacted, former Minister Broomes related to this publication that at the time she was unable to answer any formal questions about the incident since she was at the police station making a report.
Nevertheless, Broomes noted that she is hoping that a thorough investigation is done since threats of such nature should be addressed seriously.
