SUNDAY was indeed a very sad day for 27-year-old Kumar Mohamed of Riverstown, Essequibo Coast, when his home was completely gutted by a fire of unknown origin.

According to information this newspaper received, the fire occurred between 06:30hrs and 8:30hrs on Sunday.

The security guard related that he was not at home when the fire started. He said that he received a call from his uncle that his home was on fire and by the time he got there, everything was in flames.

The Guyana Fire Service was summoned but could not save anything in the house. The security guard said items approximately to the value of $1.4M went up in flames.

”All my laptop, bed, gas stove, television set, jewellery and refrigerator were burnt. I live alone and I work daily to make ends meet,” the guard related.

An investigation is ongoing.
