CRICKET Canada has a new president. Rashpal Bajwa was acclaimed as president during Cricket Canada’s recent Annual General Meeting, which was held on June 27, 2020 via teleconference as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Rashpal Bajwa’s presidential acclamation resulted from the last-minute withdrawal of the incumbent Ranjit Saini’s bid for re-election and was one of three changes that were made to the composition of Cricket Canada’s Board of Directors as a result of the elections.

Farhan Khan was elected as Secretary and Amjad Bajwa as Director. Longstanding Cricket Canada’s Board Member Mohammed Shaikh’s bid for re-election, as one of the two director positions that were contested during the elections, was also successful.

As President, Secretary and Directors respectively, Rashpal Bajwa, Farhan Khan, Amjad Bajwa and Mohammed Sheikh will join current Treasurer Charles Pais and Directors At Large Ranjit Chaudhri and Harjinder Dhillon as Members of Cricket Canada’s Board of Directors for the current fiscal year. Pais, Chaudhri and Dhillon were elected last year on two-year terms.

The newly elected president, Rashpal Bajwa, has been vice-president of Cricket Canada since 2016. His previous experience had been within Cricket British Columbia’s administration. He had also served with the British Columbia Mainland League and later as President of Cricket British Columbia.

Elected Secretary Farhan Khan is professionally employed as an Ernst & Young Manager. He has also had volunteer experience with the Toronto Cricket Club, the TDCA and Cricket Ontario. Farhan Khan has also served as President of the Canadian Corporate Cricket League, as a TDCA Vice-President and as a Director of Cricket Ontario.

Re-elected Director Mohammed Sheikh has been a long-standing Cricket Canada Board Member in addition to his seasoned multi-year role as President of the TDCA. Shaikh Mohammed was also a major player in the formulation of the Annual Global T20 Tournament.

As the other newly elected Director Amjad Bajwa’s experience as Cricket British Columbia’s current president should also prove to be of benefit to the Rashpal Bajwa-led Cricket Canada Board of Directors as it seeks to chart a new and exciting course for the further improvement of Canadian cricket.

As the official governing body for the sport, Cricket Canada is responsible for the nationwide promotion and development of cricket. Cricket Canada is a not-for-profit organisation recognised by the International Cricket Council, the Government of Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee. (weeklyvoice.com)
