CLARIFYING STATEMENT

Dear Editor
THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Ltd (GTT) draws to your attention, erroneous references related to the company’s billing practices in an article dated June 25, 2020 within the Guyana Chronicle.

The article headlined, ‘Discontinuation of bank statements disenfranchise consumers – says Pat Dyal,’ makes mention of a September 2019 public hearing, as hosted by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) whereby GTT provided more information with respect to its introduction to a summarised billing format.

GTT wishes to clarify that it is still issuing paper bills to its customers, in addition to making bills available by a number of other convenient methods, including electronic format, in-person and telephonic support.

GTT‘s introduction of e-billing by means of the MyGTT App is in support of the country’s green initiative, coupled with technological growth and increased customer demand for digital engagement. By using the app, consumers can access their bills and make convenient and immediate payment to GTT, as well as top up their accounts, view balances and add new services. Through the initiative, GTT has seen a 30 per cent decline in the number of customers being disconnected for non-payment – which speaks to the efficiency and convenience of the app. Persons who have not signed up MyGTT to access their bills are sent a summarised paper statement, and are able to obtain a more detailed bill through MyGTT, 0488 or in store.

Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) facilitates bill payments electronically and most recently, GTT provided an additional paperless option that gives customers the added convenience of receiving bills via email only. Customers can register for this option through https://bit.ly/BillDelivery.

The company continues to encourage its customers to utilise these options to access and pay their GTT bills, noting also that the more traditional bill-payment methods are still available.
