One dead, one critical following Corentyne accident

One man is dead and another in critical condition state following an accident on Sunday afternoon on the Corentyne.

Dead is Malchan Ramdanny called ‘Rasta’ 47, of Number 69 Village, East Berbice Corentyne. He died on the spot after he reportedly turned into the path of a motor cycle on the Number 68 Village Public Road.

According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, at around 16:20hrs on Sunday afternoon, Ramdanny was proceeding north on his bicycle when he suddenly turned into the path of blue and white Suzuki Sports motorcycle  bearing registration number CJ 8224.Police Constable thirty-year old Navindra Jhodan was riding the bike at the time.

“A car did just past Rasta and soon as it pass, he just turn out to ride over the road, he didn’t look or nothing cause the motor bike deh just behind and he turn straight into the bike man. He just pitch and land pon de road and dead,” an eyewitness recalled.

The impact of the collision sent the pedal cyclist flying several feet in the air and he landed in the center of the western lane of the public road approximately 20 meters away. The motor cyclist lost control and fell of the bike as it collided with a sign board and ended up in the edge of the road parapet.

Debris from the bike littered the road way as public spirited citizens rushed to the rescue of the men only to find that Ramdanny was unresponsive and  bleeding profusely from the his head, ear and mouth.

Both men were picked up and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where Ramdanny was pronounced dead on arrival.

Jhodan was assisted by emergency medical team and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains in a critical state as doctors battle to save his life.

At the time of the accident Jhodan of John Street, New Amsterdam, was on his way back home with a small group of other riders when the accident occurred. The men are part of a larger crew of bikers that usually travel up to Springlands on Sundays. They are known to be equipped with  safety gears and usually ride in packs.

Meanwhile,relatives of Ramdanny gathered at his home in Number 69 Village and expressed shock at the sudden death of their loved one.

He was described as a very helpful individual that would do odd jobs around the community to make ends meet.

Police are investigations into the accident are ongoing.
