THE police are investigating the murder of a miner, whose body was found in a hammock at a mining camp at Arrangay backlands, Cuyuni River, on Tuesday night.
Dead is David James of Port Kaituma, North West District. The Guyana Chronicle understands that James was killed around 18:30hrs by a suspect called ‘Chris,’ who is currently on the run.
According to reports on the day in question, James and another man were drinking at the camp when an argument ensued between them. During the argument the man left James and returned with the suspect who then dealt James several cuffs to his face and body. Consequently, James fell to the ground and became motionless. The police were summoned and upon arrival found James still motionless in a hammock.
The other man was arrested while the prime suspect is being pursued. A team of police officers consisting of crime scene technicians and investigators was dispatched to the location and an investigation is in progress.
