Middle-aged man dies following Soesdyke accident

POLICE are investigating the fatal accident at Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), which claimed the life of pedal cyclist David Grant-Stuart, on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

According to reports, on the day in question, about 16:00hrs, on Soesdyke public Road, there was an accident involving motor cycle CK 2411, a white, red and black XR owned and ridden by 20-year-old resident of Kallicharan Sand Road Soesdyke, EBD, and pedal cyclist Grant-Stuart, 44, of Ice House Road Timehri, EBD.

Enquiries disclosed that the pedal cyclist was proceeding north along the western side of the Soesdyke Public Road and swerved in an easternly direction to cross the road.
However, he turned into the path of the motor cycle which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the said road.

As a result, the front of the motor cycle collided with the left side of the pedal cycle and both the pedal cyclist and motor cyclist fell and sustained injuries.

Grant-Stuart was picked up in an unconscious condition by the driver of the motor cycle and public-spirited citizens and placed into a motor car.
He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara, where he was examined by a doctor on duty.

However, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was examined by Dr Durga, admitted, and died while receiving treatment.
The body was then taken to the Lyken funeral parlour for storage and is awaiting a post mortem examination.

A breathaliser test conducted on the motor cyclist was negative for alcohol.
Investigation continues.
