Day One: 25 ballot boxes counted

A total of 25 ballot boxes have been counted by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) following the first day of the national recount of the ballots cast at the March 2, 2020 regional and general elections.

GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward, told the media in an update this evening outside the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, the venue of the recount, that she anticipates that the officials will be able to pick-up “some speed” in the process tomorrow.

Counted so far by region are:

Region One – 7 boxes

Region Two – 6 boxes

Region Three – 7 boxes and;

Region Four – 5 boxes

Regarding the missing poll books from District One, Ward said she is adamant that the electoral body would investigate that issue.Day Two of the recount commences on Thursday.
