POLICE are currently on the hunt for a man identified as “Smokey”, who reportedly chopped his Venezuelan girlfriend to the head with a cutlass at Aranka Landing, Cuyuni River in the wee hours of Thursday.

The 37-year-old woman and the suspect reportedly shared a month-long relationship.
On Thursday, at about 01:12 hours, the couple were at Aranka Landing, Cuyuni River consuming alcohol, when an argument started between them.

The suspect reportedly took his cigarette and burned the victim on her face and she retaliated by lashing him in the face with a glass bottle.

The man became enraged and picked up a cutlass and dealt his girlfriend several lashes about her body and a chop to her head.

The perpetrator made good his escape, while the victim went to the Aranka Police Station and reported the matter.

The victim is in a stable condition. Police are hunting for the suspect.
