– as Public Telecommunications Ministry takes fight to the virus

THE Public Telecommunications Ministry has donated relief items to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and the National Community Policing Organisation of Guyana, to aid in the fight against COVID-19).

The ministry donated 20 tablets to the GPHC to be used by patients in the hospital’s Isolation Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Isolation ICU has a capacity for 16 patients and was recently established to provide care for COVID-19 patients who require intensive treatment. The tablets will allow patients in this unit to communicate with their family members since they are not allowed to have visitors while in isolation. GPHC officials believe that the tablets will provide psychosocial support for patients who are separated from their families during this difficult time. The ministry has also presented 1,000 masks to the GPHC which will be distributed to patients and workers at the hospital.

The National Community Policing Organisation of Guyana, at the Ministry of Public Security, was also presented with 150 face masks to be distributed among its members, so that they can effectively continue their work in the community, while protecting themselves from potentially contracting the virus.

The ministry’s donations represent government’s unwavering determination in ensuring that patients receive the best care. The government also reminds citizens of the importance of taking the necessary precautions during the COVID-19 outbreak so that the country may be able to flatten the curve and citizens remain safe.
