Man feared drowned after boat collided with GDF vessel

A man is feared drowned after the boat he was in collided with a Guyana Defence Force vessel Monday night in the Pomeroon River.

The GDF said in a release that one of its Coast Guard vessels, GDFS HAWK 1028 around bout 21:00 hours
Monday involved in an accident with a small civilian vessel in the Pomeroon River. Initial investigations have so far revealed that the GDFS HAWK , which had four ranks on board, was returning from Charity to the Floating Base when the incident occurred.

The civilian vessel was carrying four occupants and following the incident three of them were recovered alive and transported to the Charity Hospital. One of the men is currently unaccounted for, the GDF said in the release. Coast Guard Ranks along with several civilians have since launched a search for the missing man. The Guyana Defence Force has since commenced a Board of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
