DESPITE the COVID-19 pandemic, workers attached to the Drainage and Irrigation Department, Region Two Administration continue to provide improved drainage and irrigation to farmers and residents.
This was disclosed by Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran, during an interview, Tuesday morning. Jaikarran said developmental works, particularly in the agriculture sector in the region, continue and workers are taking necessary precautions while at work. He said workers continue to desilt drains, upgrade farm to market roads, clean sluices and monitor pump stations. He also said that harvesting has commenced in the region, and, as such, farmers are being provided with upgraded dams to reap and transport their cops. Jaikarran said he is unaware of the prices offered currently by millers but urged rice farmers to take necessary precautionary measures when at the rice mill.
He also encouraged rice farmers to visit his office, should they have any concerns or requests.
“We are here to serve and will continue. Feel free to visit and raise concerns. We are here to make everyone’s life comfortable,” Jaikarran said.
