THE North Essequibo Cricket Committee (NECC), in a statement on Wednesday, expressed sadness at the sudden passing of former General Manager of Guyana Beverage Inc. Mr. Robert Selman who died in his native Trinidad at the age of 75 years.

The Committee recognised his invaluable and unconditional commitment towards the long-term development of cricket among the eight area committees of the Essequibo Cricket Board.

In this regard, Guyana Beverage Inc. was one of the major sponsor of the ECB for over a decade with the much- anticipated and colourful annual ‘Busta Cricket Festival’ 50 overs cricket competition, the release added.

‘In this regard, North Essequibo was the proud and first winner of the trophy in 2000’ added the statement. The tournament expanded over the years and was critical for the exposure and establishment of several talented cricketers across the Region.

‘Mr. Robert Selman will forever be remembered as a visionary, pioneer and affectionate sporting enthusiast whose contributions to sport generally in Guyana was magnanimous’ stated the release.

The Committee has since extended its sincere condolences to his family and friends from across the Caribbean where he was a household name.
