Miss World Guyana Semi-Finalists selected

 – Pageant slated for May 

MAJESTY International, the official license holders of the Miss World Guyana franchise has selected 12 Semifinalists to compete in the Miss World Guyana 2020 national competition to be held in May 2020.
The Miss World Guyana National Competition is one of the premier events during our Independence celebrations in Guyana and this competition seeks to identify a young woman who is the embodiment of a Guyanese woman, and an ambassador who can adequately represent our country on one of the major pageant platforms in the world.
Shortlisted as Semifinalists are: Aaliyah Anthony, Alicia Jordan, Aliya Wong, Celicia Campbell, Ederle Stephen, Gabriella Chapman, Jamicia McCalman, Jhadee Jordan, Raeshauna Jones, Reshana Khan, Sasha Williams, and Sherzana Munilall.
Participation in this annual competition allows young ladies to raise awareness on issues and causes affecting their communities and possible solutions as their Beauty with a Purpose campaigns and projects.

Following this set, 10 of the candidates will be selected as Finalists and will go on to serve as Regional Ambassadors of our nation and compete for the ultimate title of Miss World Guyana. The winner will go on to serve as the country’s ambassador, and represent in the Thailand later this year.

Competition kicks off for these ladies on May 1 2020, as the finalists will compete in the talent round at the Theatre Guild, starting from 8PM. Other competitive segments include the head-head-challenge, which takes the form of a debate between the candidates; Sports and Fitness; Beauty with a Purpose; Top Model; and the Grand Coronation of the queen will take place at the end of May.

The Miss World Guyana Coronation event is the country’s official preliminary to the Miss World pageant, the longest and most prestigious pageant in the world with over 130 countries participating annually.

The Miss World Guyana competition commenced in May 1966 and crowned its first Title-holder, Umbilita Van Sluytman, who was also known as the Independence Queen and became Guyana’s first placement and semi-finalist in the Miss World 1966 pageant. The Miss World competition is the first international pageant that Guyana has achieved repeated successes and more so recently with top 10 placements in 2014 with Rafieya

Husain and 2015 with Lisa Punch.
Last year, Joylyn Conway did well too, winning her head-to-head challenge and placing top 40.

Miss World 2020 will be the 70th anniversary and edition of the Miss World competition. Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica will crown her successor at the end of the event to be held later this year in Thailand.
